RESTORE+ reports to Bappenas Minister

During the UN Climate Change Conference (COP23) in Bonn, RESTORE+ reported to Indonesia's Minister of National Development Planning (Bappenas) on its plans and approaches in supporting the formulation the next National Medium-Term Economic Development Plan (RPJMN) 2020-2024.

Representatives from IIASA and ICRAF joined a delegation comprising the Directorate for Environmental Affairs of Bappenas and the Indonesia Climate Change Trust Fund (ICCTF) in reporting to Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro. Dr. Medrilzam (Director for Environmental Affairs) introduced the bigger framework of the Strategic Environmental Assessment for RPJMN to which RESTORE+ will be providing input on the land use implications of the plan and the role of restoration. RESTORE+ lead investigators, Dr. Florian Kraxner (IIASA) and Dr. Sonya Dewi (ICRAF), introduced potential contribution of the RESTORE+, and received positive feedback from the Minister.
 
The Minister stated the importance of analyzing trade-offs between economic development and environmental protection in order to find green growth pathways for for Indonesia. The Minister also emphasized the importance of urbanization that will significantly impact future land use patterns and changes in lifestyle and consumption.
